2027: Tinubu Set to Reconcile Wike, APC Governors

President Bola Tinubu is expected to intervene in the growing disagreement between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A senior presidential aide familiar with the development disclosed that Tinubu may engage both sides in a bid to resolve their differences and prevent the dispute from escalating.

The intervention is expected to take place abroad before the end of the week, with the President currently in France.

The disagreement followed Wike’s continued promotion of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Wike, who remains a member and leader of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party while serving in the APC-led Federal Government, has accused some APC governors, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of working against his political activities.

According to Wike, the governors were opposed to the expansion of the Rainbow Coalition because it could provide support for politicians seeking to challenge APC candidates in governorship and legislative elections.

Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, however, said APC governors would not support any political arrangement capable of weakening the party or affecting its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

He stressed that the governors’ campaign commitment remained focused on APC candidates at all levels.

Wike has maintained that his coalition is primarily aimed at supporting Tinubu’s presidential ambition, arguing that backing the President does not require him to support APC candidates in other elections.

The disagreement has also raised concerns among some APC stakeholders, who fear that the dispute could affect cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The presidential aide said Tinubu would therefore seek to broker a truce between Wike and the governors and ensure that the parties work together towards their shared political objectives.
