A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as an important political asset to the ruling party.
Jibrin made the statement on Wednesday night while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he defended Wike amid criticism from some APC governors over his continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The lawmaker argued that Wike’s contributions to Tinubu’s political project and the APC-led administration should be recognised rather than publicly criticised.
He said Wike had made significant sacrifices for the President and the ruling party, adding that APC members had benefited directly or indirectly from his efforts.
Jibrin also pointed to Wike’s alleged role in strengthening the APC’s political position in Rivers State and his decision to ask candidates in the Federal Capital Territory elections to step down for APC candidates.
The former House Committee on Appropriation Chairman urged APC governors who had disagreements with Wike to resolve their differences through private discussions rather than public statements.
He maintained that Wike should be treated as part of the ruling party’s broader political coalition, despite remaining a member of the PDP.
