The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and key stakeholders of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State have reportedly held a strategic meeting in Spain ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting was said to have been attended by the Executive Director of Projects and Infrastructural Development at the South South Development Commission (SSDC), Chief Marcus Nle Ejii; the Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Senator Mao Ohabunwa; and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda.

However, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who recently identified with the coalition, was reportedly absent from the meeting.

Although details of the meeting were not made public, the gathering is believed to be connected to political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike had recently endorsed Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, as his preferred candidate to succeed Fubara as governor of Rivers State.

The development comes as political activities intensify in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaigns for the February 6, 2027 governorship election officially commenced on Tuesday, September 8.
