Omar Marmoush is set to leave Manchester City for Tottenham Hotspur after the two clubs reached an agreement over a season-long loan for the Egyptian attacker.
The arrangement reportedly includes a £60 million obligation for Tottenham to buy the player outright next summer.
Marmoush arrived at the Etihad in January 2025 after City agreed a deal worth around £59 million with Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite his strong record in Germany, he has never managed to become a regular part of Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.
The presence of Erling Haaland has made competition for the central attacking position particularly difficult, leaving Marmoush with limited opportunities to build momentum at the club.
His City record stands at 16 goals from 62 appearances in all competitions. Last season, he found the net eight times in 36 games, but his Premier League involvement was modest.
The forward featured from the bench during City’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and did not leave the substitutes’ bench when City began their league campaign with a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth.
Across the previous Premier League season, Marmoush made only eight starts and played approximately 700 minutes. He registered three goals and three assists.
Tottenham’s interest gives him the chance to take on a more prominent role and get the consistent game time that has been difficult to find in Manchester.
A versatile attacking option
Spurs are attracted to Marmoush partly because he is not restricted to one position.
The 27-year-old can lead the attack but is also capable of playing from the left side or operating behind another forward. That range of options could give Roberto De Zerbi greater flexibility when selecting his frontline.
Marmoush also brings movement and the ability to link play. He can come short to receive the ball, interchange positions with teammates and make runs into areas left open by defenders.
Those qualities could prove useful given Tottenham’s current attacking situation. Dominic Solanke has dealt with fitness problems, while Richarlison is entering the final season of his contract.
Tottenham have already been among the biggest spenders during the current transfer window, with their summer outlay reportedly moving beyond £312 million. Savio is among the notable arrivals from Manchester City as Spurs continue to rebuild their squad.
Adding Marmoush on a permanent £60 million deal would represent another sizeable commitment.
For Marmoush, the switch could be an important career reset. Rather than competing for limited minutes at City, he will have the opportunity at Tottenham to play a bigger role, regain his confidence and establish himself as one of the club’s leading attacking players.
