BREAKING: Fire Guts Homes in Nyanya, Abuja

In Nyanya Area C, a suburban area within the Abuja Municipal Area Council, a devastating fire outbreak occurred, resulting in extensive damage to numerous homes. The fire, described as very serious, left the community in distress as they struggled to contain it. Efforts to reach the nearest fire service station in Nyanya were unsuccessful; the station refused to respond, citing a previous incident where their vehicle was vandalized.

According to local sources, the fire was triggered by a mosquito coil left unattended in a home. The mother had gone out, leaving her three children alone. The eldest child noticed smoke and immediately took action, ensuring his siblings’ safety by taking them outside. As he attempted to call their mother, a gas explosion occurred, intensifying the fire and causing extensive damage.

Consequently, a fire service team from Garki was dispatched, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already caused significant damage. The delay led to heightened tensions in the community, with some area boys expressing their frustration by throwing objects at the fire service personnel.

The situation escalated further when the police arrived, deploying tear gas to disperse the crowd. During the chaos, an asthmatic girl collapsed due to the tear gas exposure and was subsequently rushed to the hospital.

The quick response of the eldest child was vital in preventing a greater tragedy. This incident highlights the critical need for effective and timely emergency response services, as well as improved community relations to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
