Commuters travelling along the Mararaba–Abuja highway are experiencing severe traffic congestion whenever it rains, as the ongoing road construction continues to disrupt the flow of vehicles.
Motorists say even light rainfall is enough to slow movement, with vehicles spending hours in traffic as narrowed sections of the road become difficult to navigate. The situation is often worse during the morning and evening rush hours when thousands of commuters are travelling to and from the Federal Capital Territory.
Commercial drivers and passengers have expressed frustration over the recurring delays, saying the gridlock has affected daily activities, increased transport fares, and caused many workers to arrive late at their destinations.
Residents acknowledge that the road project is expected to improve transportation once completed but are calling on the authorities to introduce better traffic management and temporary measures to ease congestion, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
As the rainy season continues, road users hope for quicker progress on the project and immediate interventions to reduce the hardship faced by commuters along one of the busiest routes into Abuja.
