FG Delivers Promised WAFCON Rewards to Super Falcons

Nigeria’s women’s national football team have been handed the final benefits promised by the Federal Government after their successful Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, with the presentation taking place in Morocco ahead of the start of the 2026 tournament.

The ceremony was held on Tuesday in Rabat, only hours before the African champions began their Group C campaign against Malawi.

National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko personally delivered the documents in the presence of Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, while captain Rasheedat Ajibade received the packages on behalf of the squad.

Each player was presented with documents confirming ownership of the three-bedroom homes pledged by President Bola Tinubu, alongside certificates recognising the national honours awarded to the team.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced the development through its official X account, describing the presentation as the fulfilment of the Federal Government’s remaining commitments to the players following their continental success.

Nigeria secured the rewards after producing one of the most memorable comebacks in WAFCON history, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the championship match and claim a record 10th African title.

To celebrate the achievement, President Tinubu approved a reward package that included $100,000 for every player, $50,000 for each member of the coaching crew and support staff, a three-bedroom house for every team member and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

While the financial rewards were transferred to the beneficiaries several months ago after all official procedures were completed, the handover of the housing documents and honour certificates was postponed until the squad assembled for this year’s championship in Morocco.

Before travelling to Rabat, Dikko explained that the decision to wait until the players were together was intentional, expressing confidence that receiving the documents as a team would inspire them as they pursue another continental title.

With the outstanding rewards now fully delivered, the Super Falcons can focus entirely on defending their crown. Nigeria opened their campaign against tournament newcomers Malawi and will also face Zambia and Egypt as they seek to capture an unprecedented 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
