Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has completed the final diplomatic formalities required for his deployment as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, with additional accreditation to the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The former minister announced the development on Tuesday through his verified X account, revealing that he had officially received his Letters of Credence after the host nations granted their approval for his appointment.

According to him, the credentials were presented on behalf of President Bola Tinubu by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic assignment.

Fani-Kayode explained that his next step would be travelling to Pretoria, where he will formally present his credentials to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa before assuming full responsibilities as Nigeria’s chief envoy. He will also oversee Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with Lesotho and Eswatini.

Expressing excitement over the appointment, the former minister described the opportunity as a privilege and a fresh call to national service. He said returning to public office nearly two decades after serving as Minister of Aviation was both humbling and deeply rewarding.

Reflecting on the milestone, Fani-Kayode said he believes the appointment is part of God’s plan and expressed appreciation for being entrusted with another important national responsibility.

He also conveyed gratitude to President Tinubu for selecting him to represent Nigeria, saying the appointment reflected the President’s confidence in his ability to advance the country’s diplomatic interests.

The former minister pledged to work diligently in strengthening Nigeria’s relationship with South Africa and the other countries under his jurisdiction while promoting the nation’s political and economic interests abroad.

He appealed to Nigerians and supporters to keep him in their prayers as he prepares to begin the assignment, expressing optimism that his tenure would be marked by meaningful achievements and positive outcomes.

Fani-Kayode concluded by attributing the opportunity entirely to God’s favour, saying he remained confident that divine guidance would enable him to discharge his responsibilities faithfully and make a valuable contribution to Nigeria’s foreign relations.

His deployment comes as the Federal Government continues efforts to deepen diplomatic engagement across Africa and reinforce strategic partnerships with key countries on the continent.
