Nigeria’s National Sports Commission has expressed readiness to partner with Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi on his grassroots football development efforts through the Kwara Kiddies League.
The Commission’s Chairman, Shehu Dikko, gave the assurance in Abuja when Awoniyi paid a courtesy visit to the NSC headquarters. The Nottingham Forest forward arrived with former Super Eagles player Anthony Ujah.
Awoniyi used the visit to share details of his youth football project aimed at giving children in Kwara and beyond better access to structured competition and development pathways. He also presented a Nottingham Forest jersey to the NSC leadership.
Dikko welcomed the initiative and praised the striker for investing in youth football development, noting that such efforts play a key role in strengthening the country’s future talent pool.
He added that the Commission is open to collaborations that focus on identifying and nurturing young athletes across the country.
Both parties also discussed broader issues around football development in Nigeria, including how to improve systems that support player growth from the grassroots to the professional level.
