Following its commissioning on Monday, May 27, 2024, the Abuja Light Rail will run for free for two months, according to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.

Wike made this statement on Thursday at the Radio House in Abuja during the ongoing Ministerial Sectoral Update to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office.

The Minister had earlier said that on Monday, President Bola Tinubu will officially open the Metro rail project for business.

However, he urged citizens to start using the Metro rails from Tuesday, May 28, adding that the President may prolong the free train trips for up to six months to facilitate people’s ease of commuting.

The Minister further stated that beginning in the year 2025, the FCT Administration will start building 10,000 affordable dwelling units under the Renewed Hope City project.

Today, briefings are anticipated from Sa’Idu Ahmed Alkali, the minister of transportation, and Jamilo Bio Ibrahim, the minister of youth development.
