Stanley Nwabali Dismisses NPFL Rumours

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has dismissed reports linking him with a return to the Nigeria Professional Football League, maintaining that his focus remains on securing opportunities outside Nigeria.

The 29-year-old, who recently parted ways with South African side Chippa United, is currently without a club and weighing his next move. Amid growing speculation about a possible return to the Nigerian topflight, Nwabali clarified that such reports do not reflect his current plans.

There had been calls from some quarters, including former internationals, urging the goalkeeper to consider a temporary move back to the NPFL. However, Nwabali indicated that his ambitions are aligned with playing in more competitive environments beyond West Africa.

Explaining his stance, he pointed to factors such as better structure, improved welfare, and financial stability in foreign leagues as key considerations influencing players’ decisions.

He noted that many footballers in the region often look towards Europe, South Africa, and North Africa for career progression, largely due to the level of organisation and remuneration available in those leagues.

Nwabali, who previously featured for several Nigerian clubs before moving abroad, acknowledged that transfer rumours are common in football but stressed that no concrete deal has been reached regarding his future.

According to him, speculation often comes with visibility and recognition, adding that discussions around potential moves should not be mistaken for confirmed negotiations.

Despite concerns about his club situation, the goalkeeper remains unfazed, insisting he will take his time before making a decision on his next destination.

For now, he remains open to opportunities across different leagues, reiterating that he will only make a move when the right offer presents itself.
