Ahead of the scheduled “Biafra’s Heroes Day” on May 30th in the South-East, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have urged the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to reschedule its exams planned for that day. Similarly, IPOB has appealed to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to postpone its convocation ceremony. Through spokesperson Emma Powerful, IPOB has called for a stay-at-home directive on May 30th to honor Biafra’s heroes, urging residents to commemorate those who perished during the Civil War and beyond.

IPOB, noting WAEC and UNIZIK’s scheduled events for May 30th, has requested them to reconsider. Powerful emphasized restricted movement on that day, except for essential services. He underlined May 30th’s significance as Biafra Heroes Day, a time to honor those who sacrificed during the Nigerian-Biafran war.

The group reiterated its call for rescheduling WAEC and UNIZIK’s events, highlighting May 30th’s sacredness for remembrance. They stressed no public events in Biafra land on that day, urging closures of businesses, schools, banks, and government offices. IPOB cautioned against endangering lives by holding activities on a day meant for solemn reflection.

IPOB warned UNIZIK and others planning events on May 30th to postpone, emphasizing Biafra Heroes Day’s precedence. They urged attendees of UNIZIK’s convocation ceremony to prioritize safety and avoid being on roads during a day of mourning for Biafra’s fallen. They advised against becoming victims of potential security force actions aimed at discrediting IPOB’s sit-at-home protests.
