Protest in UK Chastises EFCC over Yahaya Bello’s Case

A group of Nigerians gathered in the United Kingdom today under the banner of the “Alliance For Emancipation and True Change” to peacefully protest. They called upon President Bola Tinubu to ensure the impartiality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and prevent its misuse for political agendas.

The demonstration, organized by supporters of Yahaya Bello, coincided with another protest allegedly backed by the opposition in Kogi State, also taking place in London. The pro-Bello group criticized Murtala Ajaka, an opposition candidate in the November 2023 gubernatorial election, currently in London, for purportedly funding a protest they deemed misleading and counterproductive.

During the protest, the alliance issued a statement advocating for a review of the EFCC’s procedures, expressing concerns about selective investigations, unconstitutional media trials, and the politicization of the commission’s actions. They urged President Tinubu to intervene and ensure the EFCC operates with neutrality.

Dr. Shaibu Ojogbane, the alliance’s Publicity Secretary, and Chukwunonso Ezeani, Director of Research & Public Affairs, conveyed in the statement their trust that President Tinubu would promptly address the situation to prevent widespread condemnation of the government concerning issues like selective justice and human rights abuses.
