Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has affirmed his commitment to resolving the ongoing political crisis in the state through legal means. He urged his supporters and all residents to uphold the rule of law and refrain from violence, assuring them that the situation is under control. Fubara made these remarks during the official inauguration of the Emohua-Kalabari (Tema Junction) Road project in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, with former Bayelsa State governor and current Senator Henry Seriake Dickson in attendance.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Governor Fubara revealed that the Emohua-Kalabari road project, initially awarded by the previous administration for N21.2 billion, faced financial challenges. Only N6 billion had been paid before Fubara’s administration took office. Fubara’s government cleared the outstanding N15.2 billion and completed 70% of the project, considering it a significant achievement for the Kalabari people.

Governor Fubara addressed potential criticisms regarding the project’s cost overrun, attributing it to exchange rate fluctuations during its execution. He acknowledged a request for cost variation from the contractor due to these fluctuations but assured them of resolution. Fubara emphasized that despite the project’s initiation under the previous administration, his government substantially funded and completed the road project, ensuring its benefit to the people.
