Amid ongoing defections in the National Assembly, several members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and the Kwankwasiya Movement.
The lawmakers—Garba Diso, Ghali Mustapha Tijjani, Rabi’u Yusuf, Abdulhakeem Kamilu Ado, Hassan Muhammad Danjuma, Muhammad Bello Shehu, Datti Yusuf, Sani Wakili, DanKawu Idris, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Hassan Hussain, Mukhtar Umar Yarima, and Muhammed Garba Chiroma—dismissed reports suggesting they were planning to leave the NNPP.
In a statement jointly issued and read on their behalf by Diso in Abuja, the lawmakers described the speculation as the handiwork of political detractors threatened by the rising influence of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement.
They stated:
“We, the Members of the House of Representatives who proudly identify with the Kwankwasiya Movement and belong to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), wish to reaffirm our total and unwavering loyalty to our great party and its visionary leadership.”
“Our attention has been drawn to false and malicious reports circulating across various social media platforms and other channels, alleging that we, the Kwankwasiya lawmakers in the Green Chamber, are planning to defect to other political parties.”
The lawmakers urged the public to disregard the rumours, insisting the claims are “unfounded” and aimed at sowing discord.
They clarified that their interactions with colleagues from other political parties were normal legislative engagements and should not be misconstrued as evidence of disloyalty.
“Our constitutional responsibilities demand constructive engagement with colleagues across party lines in the interest of national development. Such interactions should not be interpreted as plans for defection.”
Reaffirming their commitment to the NNPP and its ideology, the lawmakers added:
“We remain steadfast in our allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya ideology, which stands for justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-centered governance. No amount of misinformation or propaganda will shake our faith in the movement or in the leadership.”
They also pledged to remain focused on promoting effective governance, quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, and improved living standards for all Nigerians.
