The vibrant city of Ikeja will come alive on Saturday, November 22, 2025, as the second Capital City Race gears up to take place. Organisers are hopeful that this year’s edition will match or surpass the excitement of last year’s debut.

Runners will tackle a 10km course starting at Ikeja City Mall and finishing at AVMCC Field, GRA, Ikeja. While participation is free, all runners must register in advance through the official Capital City Race website.

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Sports Commission, has officially endorsed the event, highlighting the state’s dedication to promoting wellness and an active lifestyle among its residents.

The inaugural race, held on November 23, 2024, attracted more than 1,000 participants who ran from City Mall Alausa to AVMCC Field, GRA, Ikeja. Cash prizes were awarded to top finishers, with N500,000 for the winners in both male and female categories, N300,000 for first runners-up, and N200,000 for second runners-up.

Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, hailed the event during its first edition as a remarkable initiative. “The Lagos State Sports Commission is ready to welcome any initiative that helps our community to be more productive and more active to impact our socio-economic endeavour,” he said.

Dapo Ajayi, the race organiser, highlighted the event’s focus on encouraging fitness and inspiring young people to embrace active lifestyles. “Our young population is enormous, and we can’t be sitting and doing nothing. Physical activities encourage physical and mental well-being of the populace as well as bonding and meeting people from different walks of life,” he said.

This year, brands such as Planet Bottling Company, creators of Reaktor energy drink, and the Fembol Group will bring added energy and excitement to the race.

Interested participants can find more details and register through the official website and social media channels. Organisers promise that the 2025 edition will continue to foster community interaction, networking, and the promotion of fitness culture throughout Lagos State.
