PSG Show Patience in Transfer Market Amid Injuries

Despite an injury crisis that has sidelined several of his key players, Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique remains unfazed about making new signings when the transfer market reopens in January.

The Spanish coach, speaking ahead of Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash against Lyon, said there’s “no rush” to dip into the market, even as Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes face weeks on the sidelines after a bruising 2–1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Dembele, who recently won the Ballon d’Or, is recovering from a calf injury, while Hakimi and Mendes are both nursing ankle and knee sprains respectively. Their absence adds to a growing list of casualties that includes Desire Doue, who was stretchered off last weekend against Lorient with a thigh injury.

Luis Enrique, however, brushed off any panic, insisting the situation is under control. “Everything has to be planned,” he said. “There’s no problem, they’re injuries of course, but all teams have them. We’re calm and relaxed, not worried.”

He also highlighted the silver lining in the team’s challenges, noting that tough moments open doors for others. “Every difficulty offers opportunities to give playing time to (other) players,” the coach added.

Sunday’s trip to Lyon could mark Lee Kang-in’s 100th appearance in PSG colours, a personal milestone for the South Korean winger. The midfielder has been a reliable presence in the squad this season, offering versatility and energy whenever called upon. His contribution could prove even more crucial now as the team navigates through this difficult spell without some of its biggest names.

While PSG’s injury woes might seem concerning, the French champions have shown depth and resilience throughout the season. Luis Enrique’s rotation policy has ensured that younger players and new signings are gradually integrated into the team, helping maintain consistency in results despite the challenges. The Spaniard has repeatedly emphasized his long-term vision for the squad, preferring stability and planning over short-term panic buys.

For Lyon, coach Paulo Fonseca faces his own setback as captain Corentin Tolisso is doubtful due to a hamstring strain. “We’ll see if he can play, but I have my doubts,” Fonseca admitted, adding that it would be risky to rush him back. The club’s top scorer, Pavel Sulc, is also out with a similar injury, leaving Lyon without two of their most influential players in a crucial fixture.

The match promises to be a key test for both sides — for PSG, it’s about maintaining their momentum at the top despite absences, and for Lyon, an opportunity to close the gap and prove their strength in depth.

PSG remain two points clear of Marseille at the summit of Ligue 1, while Lyon trail by four points in sixth place. With several weeks still left before the January window, all eyes will be on how Luis Enrique’s men cope — and whether their calm approach will continue to yield results in a demanding season.
