German Coach Danny Rohl Named Rangers’ New Head Coach

Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers have announced the appointment of Danny Rohl as their new manager, following the dismissal of Russell Martin after a disappointing start to the season. The decision marks the club’s latest attempt to regain stability and restore its competitive edge both domestically and in Europe.

The Glasgow giants, who currently sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership table with just nine points from eight matches, find themselves 13 points adrift of league leaders Hearts. The sluggish start to the campaign, coupled with inconsistent performances, led to growing frustration among fans and ultimately cost Martin his job after just 17 matches in charge.

Rohl, 36, takes on the challenge with an impressive résumé despite his relatively young age. He previously guided Sheffield Wednesday to a 12th-place finish in the English Championship during his only full season as a manager before parting ways with the club in July. Before stepping into management, Rohl built a solid reputation as an assistant coach, serving under top tacticians at RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and the German national team. His background in working with elite players and under intense pressure has made him one of the most respected young coaches in European football.

“It is a huge privilege to be taking on the role of head coach at such an incredible club, recognised around the world,” Rohl said during his unveiling. “I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for in four competitions, and my staff and I will give it everything to reward the supporters and the club.”

Rangers’ sporting director, Kevin Thelwell, expressed confidence in Rohl’s ability to turn things around, describing him as an “exceptional coach” with the right pedigree to handle the pressures of Ibrox. “He has worked in some of the most demanding football environments in the world, where winning is the only expectation, and we believe that background has prepared him for Rangers,” Thelwell added.

Rohl’s immediate task will be to steady the team’s league form and close the gap on their rivals. Beyond domestic duties, he will also lead Rangers’ campaigns in the Scottish Cup, League Cup, and European competitions, where expectations remain high.

As Rangers enter a new chapter under Rohl’s leadership, fans will be hoping his tactical acumen, discipline, and experience at the highest level can help reignite the club’s ambition and bring back the glory days to Ibrox.
