The inauguration of a cutting-edge medical facility at the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, Benue State was led by Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff. Situated within the Joe Akahan Military Cantonment, this facility was hailed by Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian Army spokesperson, as a model for similar projects nationwide, as stated by the COAS.

Brig. Gen. Nwachukwu highlighted that the facility includes an Intensive Care Unit equipped with life-saving machines, ensuring immediate assistance before referral to higher-tier medical centers. Additionally, the maternity wards have been upgraded to tackle maternal and infant mortality, an issue often exacerbated by inadequate equipment.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja emphasized that initiatives similar to the Makurdi project have begun in other brigade medical centers, underscoring the commitment to improving healthcare for military personnel and their families nationwide.

Regarding the project’s significance, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja stressed its role in enhancing the welfare of soldiers and their families, acknowledging it as a gesture of gratitude from the government for their sacrifices.

Furthermore, the COAS expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his consistent support while urging the 401 Special Forces Brigade community to take responsibility for the facility’s maintenance and optimal utilization.
