Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), has earned top industry recognitions alongside its Acting Chief Operating Officer, Remi Jibodu, at two prestigious aviation and travel events,the CHINET Awards and the 21st AKWAABA African Travel Market.
In a statement signed by Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, BASL’s Head of Corporate Communications, MMA2 was awarded the title of Best Cargo Airport in Nigeria, while Jibodu was recognized as one of the Top 50 Air Cargo Personalities in Nigeria. These honours underscore both the terminal’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in airport operations and Jibodu’s leadership role in advancing Nigeria’s air cargo sector.
The recognition of MMA2 reflects its growing reputation for excellence in both passenger and cargo services. Since inception, the terminal has consistently been described as a benchmark for modern airport operations in Nigeria, offering innovative solutions and a strong customer-centric approach. The award given to Jibodu highlights his strategic focus on expanding and strengthening cargo operations, particularly in an industry that plays a critical role in trade and logistics.
CHINET, the organizer of the awards, is widely known as West Africa’s only international aviation cargo forum. It serves as a platform for bringing together stakeholders across the value chain to discuss challenges, opportunities, and the future of air cargo in Africa. Its recognition of MMA2 and Jibodu is seen as an endorsement of their role in shaping the industry.
Speaking after receiving his award, Jibodu outlined the key challenges facing Nigeria’s air cargo industry, citing issues such as weak digital adoption, fragmented processes, low public awareness, and inadequate freighter capacity. He stressed that unlocking the sector’s full potential requires targeted investments in digital platforms capable of integrating the logistics ecosystem, financing models that encourage fleet expansion, and stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors. “Only then can we deliver the speed, transparency, and reliability the market demands,” he said.
On her part, Yinka-Olawuyi emphasized that the latest awards reaffirm MMA2’s ongoing culture of innovation and service excellence. “This recognition is another reminder that excellence is a journey, not a destination. At MMA2, we have consistently raised the bar in creating seamless passenger experiences, and we are extending the same culture of continuous improvement to our cargo operations,” she noted.
She further explained that the terminal is not only focused on passenger comfort but is also committed to building infrastructure that facilitates trade and logistics.
