Enyimba Football Club maintained their position at the summit of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League after a thrilling 3-2 victory against Bendel Insurance in Aba on Sunday.
The hosts twice had to recover from deficits in front of their fans. Bendel Insurance stunned the crowd with an opener from Chinedu Nwosu inside three minutes. Abiodun Joseph, once of Sunshine Stars, equalised in the 18th minute, but Wisdom Udom struck in the 60th to put the visitors back ahead. Enyimba quickly responded as Kalu Nweke converted a penalty six minutes later, before Chidera Michael netted what proved to be the winner in the 70th minute.
That result extended Enyimba’s unbeaten run this season and kept them top of the standings. Rivers United are the only other team yet to lose after five rounds of games.
In Ibadan, Shooting Stars claimed their first victory of the campaign, edging newly promoted Kun Khalifat FC 2-1. Right-back Gali Falke opened the scoring in the seventh minute, Sodiq Ibrahim added a second after halftime, while Henry Ezeonye reduced the deficit for the visitors in the 76th minute.
Minna produced a goal fest as Niger Tornadoes dispatched Ikorodu City 4-2. Tornadoes surged into a three-goal lead within the opening 20 minutes through Ismail Sarki, Abba Khalid, and Abdulaziz Dalhatu. Musa Maliq replied shortly after halftime, but Shehu Dabai added a fourth for Tornadoes. Tosin Oyedokun converted a 73rd-minute penalty for Ikorodu to cap the scoring.
Bayelsa United suffered back-to-back home defeats after a 2-1 loss to Nasarawa United in Yenagoa. Mustapha Jawad gave the hosts the lead in the 36th minute, but Ekeson Okrorie drew level before the break, and Collins Onovuke netted late on to seal the points for the visitors.
Several matches were postponed on match-day five, leaving Barau FC still searching for their first top-flight win. They now sit in the relegation zone alongside Plateau United, Kun Khalifat, and Rangers International.
