Tinubu Deserves Second Term Just Like Buhari — NYCN President Sukubo

The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has voiced strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.

Speaking during a consultative meeting in Ibadan with stakeholders from the South-West geopolitical zone, Sukubo emphasized the need for fairness in Nigeria’s political structure. He argued that just as former President Muhammadu Buhari from the North served two uninterrupted terms, the South should also complete its eight-year cycle through Tinubu.

“Since President Buhari had two full terms, it is only fair that President Tinubu is allowed to complete the South’s turn,” Sukubo said.

He downplayed criticisms of Tinubu’s performance, describing them as typical sentiments often directed at sitting presidents.

The event also served as a campaign stop for Sukubo, who is seeking re-election as NYCN president at the upcoming National Elective Congress scheduled for this weekend. He pledged to focus on digital innovation and youth empowerment if given another four-year term.

“My vision is to harness the energy and creativity of Nigerian youths by leveraging technology to create opportunities in today’s fast-changing world,” he said.

Sukubo acknowledged the significant role of the South-West in youth mobilisation and leadership within the NYCN, highlighting the region’s strong representation in the council’s executive committee.

“I’ve ensured that the South-West enjoys the highest representation in NYCN’s leadership structure, in appreciation of its consistent support,” he noted.

The NYCN’s Oyo State Chairman and leader of the Forum of State Chairmen, Comrade Abdulsalam Abdulquadri, pledged the South-West’s full support for Sukubo’s re-election, saying the zone is working with other regions to ensure victory at the congress.

Comrade Olalekan James, a South-West youth leader and convener of the Ibadan meeting, condemned any attempts to remove Sukubo outside of the council’s constitutional processes.

“Leadership change in the NYCN can only happen through a constitutional process at the Elective Congress, not through any kangaroo arrangement,” James said.

Meanwhile, Sukubo’s campaign Director-General, Comrade Temple Chinedu Chika, urged all stakeholders to mobilise nationwide for a successful outcome.

Sukubo expressed confidence that his nationwide consultations, particularly with the South-West, will translate into strong support at the polls.
