In a major legal victory, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has secured a Federal High Court ruling compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include the party in the nationwide by-elections scheduled for August 16, 2025.
Furthermore,The ruling, delivered in Abuja, ends a prolonged legal battle triggered by internal party disputes that had previously excluded the SDP from the electoral process.
This landmark judgment is being hailed as a turning point for the party, with many crediting the leadership of Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, the National Chairman, and Dr. Ekpenyong Ambo, the dynamic National Secretary, for their steadfast commitment to justice. The National Working Committee (NWC) also played a crucial role in navigating the legal complexities that culminated in this favorable outcome.
Chief Solsuema Osaro, the SDP’s National Legal Adviser, described the verdict as a victory for democracy and a vindication of the party’s right to participate in the political process. He emphasized that the court’s directive reaffirms the principle that internal party disagreements should not be used as grounds to disenfranchise candidates or their supporters.
With this legal hurdle cleared, SDP candidates are now preparing to campaign with renewed confidence. Party members and supporters across the country have expressed optimism that this development will energize their base and enhance the SDP’s performance at the polls.
The ruling marks a significant boost for the party ahead of the by-elections, as it repositions the SDP firmly on the national political stage.
