The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has detained Elizabeth Ojah and Kulu Dogonyaro, two female suspects, on charges of child trafficking.

While smuggling five children into the Federal Capital Territory, they were apprehended on Saturday. The development was announced in a statement on Thursday by SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer.

Adeh said, “The operatives of the FCT police command, on April 27, 2024, at about 8:00 p.m., arrested two female suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, in connection with the trafficking of five children.

“The suspects who attempted to escape arrest from Sokoto police operatives were intercepted and arrested by FCT police operatives at Kagini junction, Abuja, while suspiciously conveying five (5) children into the Federal Capital Territory.

“The FCT police command, in the spirit of oneness, have now handed the suspects and victims over to the Sokoto state police command for further investigation and onward prosecution”.

Attacks by bandits and kidnappings have increased recently in the Federal Capital Territory. Three infamous bandits were eliminated by members of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command’s Special Intervention Squad in a woodland in the Bwari neighborhood of Abuja in January 2024.

In the same month, the air component of Operation Whirl Punch in Kaduna state carried out operations that resulted in the death of a kidnapping mastermind known as Janari, along with some of his foot soldiers. Janari was alleged to have planned multiple kidnappings in both Kaduna State and Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command also detained a pastor named Simon Kado, his relative Jesse Simon-Kado, and their driver Muhammad Isah in February for allegedly smuggling 12 minors, four boys and eight girls, between the ages of five and sixteen, from Nasarawa State to Ogun State.
