Nollywood actor, Tom Njemanze, is currently fighting for his life after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, prompting an outpouring of concern and an urgent call for financial assistance from colleagues and supporters.

A video shared on Instagram by film producer Stanley Ontop showed the ailing actor lying in a hospital bed, visibly weak and attached to an oxygen cylinder and intravenous drips — a sobering image that underscores the seriousness of his condition.

In a heartfelt appeal, Stanley posted Njemanze’s bank details and urged the public to come to the veteran actor’s aid.

“Hello guys, one of our Nollywood legends is sick and needs urgent surgery. Sir Tom Njemanze has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and needs your support to undergo surgery,” he wrote. “Nothing is too small, fam. Help our legend live again.”

The post has since sparked a wave of empathy and solidarity, with fans and fellow entertainers offering prayers, encouragement, and donations. However, it also reignited conversations about the lack of structured healthcare and welfare systems for ageing actors in Nigeria’s film industry.

Tom Njemanze, who gained prominence in the 1990s, is best known for his powerful roles in iconic Nollywood films such as Tokunboh, Pounds and Dollars, Atosa, Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Brain Box, and Igbotic Love. Admired for his expressive performances and commanding screen presence, he holds a lasting place in the hearts of movie lovers across the country.

As support continues to pour in, many are urging the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and other industry stakeholders to establish better structures to care for veteran entertainers facing life-threatening illnesses after decades of service.

Though the road ahead is uncertain, the hope remains that with collective support, Tom Njemanze can overcome this battle and return to health.
