The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates will take place from Tuesday, April 30, 2024, to Monday, June 24, 2024. This was disclosed by the Head of Nigeria Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, at a press briefing at the WAEC Lagos Office on Monday.

According to Dr. Dangut, the examination will span seven weeks and six days and will be conducted in four WAEC member countries: Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra-Leone, and Liberia. He expressed the council’s readiness to conduct the examination, stating, “We want to intimate candidates of the council’s readiness to conduct WASSCE.”

Dr. Dangut also acknowledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Education, State Ministries of Education, the Nigeria Police, and other stakeholders in the conduct of the examination. He expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Education, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, and all stakeholders for their usual support and cooperation.

The announcement puts to rest speculation about the date of the examination, and candidates are advised to prepare accordingly. The WASSCE is a critical examination for secondary school students in West Africa, and its outcome determines their eligibility for tertiary education.

With this announcement, candidates, parents, and guardians can now plan ahead and make necessary preparations for the examination. WAEC has assured stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a credible and hitch-free examination.
