Delta State Postpones 2025 BECE Over Sallah Holidays

The Delta State Government has rescheduled the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), originally set for June 9–13, to now hold from June 16–20 for both public and private secondary schools.

This change was announced on Tuesday by Mr. Daniel Akiri, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, on behalf of the Commissioner, Mrs. Rose Ezewu.

According to the statement, the postponement is due to public holidays declared by the Federal Government to observe Eid-ul-Adha (June 6 and June 9) and Democracy Day (June 12).

“We regret any inconvenience caused by this adjustment,” the ministry stated.

The BECE is a key national examination for students completing Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) in Nigeria. It marks the transition to Senior Secondary School and is overseen by NECO at the federal level, with states conducting their own versions.

The exam tests core subjects including English, Mathematics, and Basic Science, forming a crucial part of Nigeria’s 9-3-4 education structure.
