TikTok has removed 2.4 million videos posted by Nigerian users in the fourth quarter of 2024 for breaching its content policy. The platform, owned by Bytedance, revealed that Nigeria ranked among the top 50 countries where policy-violating videos originated during this period.

In its latest Community Guidelines Enforcement report, TikTok disclosed that a total of 153 million videos were taken down globally in Q4. The United States recorded the highest number of violations, with 8.5 million videos removed.

The company noted that the top 50 markets responsible for the majority of policy violations accounted for approximately 90% of all content removals. The removed content was found to violate various TikTok policies, including those concerning integrity and authenticity, privacy and security, mental and behavioral health, safety, and civility, among others.

Additionally, TikTok reported the removal of 211.5 million accounts during the same period, with the majority being fake accounts or accounts suspected to belong to users under the age of 13. Of these, 185.3 million were fake accounts, 20.5 million were believed to be owned by users under 13, and 5.6 million were removed for unspecified reasons.

TikTok emphasized its continued vigilance in detecting and eliminating external threats, such as fake accounts and engagement attempts. The company explained that these ongoing efforts can sometimes cause fluctuations in reported metrics. Furthermore, TikTok updated its classification of fake likes and followers, which contributed to the observed increase in removals for these categories in Q4 2024.
