British Airways has canceled flights from Nigeria to London following a fire at London Heathrow Airport.
Michael Achimugu, Director of the National Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed the development, citing a report from the airline.
According to British Airways’ website, the airline announced, “Due to a power outage in the London Heathrow area, the airport is currently closed. Customers scheduled to travel from Heathrow on Friday are advised not to go to the airport until further notice. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
In a brief statement on X, Achimugu informed that British Airways passengers from Abuja to London had been accommodated in a hotel, and necessary care was being provided to all affected travelers. He also noted that passengers scheduled for the 4 p.m. flight from Lagos were notified not to proceed to the airport.
