President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Ministry of Education to incorporate National Open University graduates into the National Youth Service Corps program. In addition,Tinubu addressed the issue of NOUN Law graduates’ admission to Law School, aiming for equal opportunities.

During his speech at the 13th convocation ceremony of NOUN, Tinubu announced these directives, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and equal access to education. Previously, NOUN graduates had been assured by the former vice chancellor, Abdallah Adamu, of their eligibility for NYSC and Law School participation. However, legal and regulatory constraints hindered their inclusion.

Despite a Federal High Court dismissing a suit filed by NOUN Law graduates seeking admission to the Nigerian Law School, Tinubu’s directive stands as a significant step towards addressing their concerns.

Tinubu’s directive, delivered by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Biodun Saliu, underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities within the legal framework.

Acknowledging the importance of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Tinubu highlighted its role in expanding access to higher education and meeting the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Tinubu commended NOUN’s contribution to advancing educational goals through ICT, affirming his administration’s dedication to enhancing ODL across the nation.
