Nigerian music star, Davido, marked his 32nd birthday on Thursday with gratitude and a generous act of philanthropy. Sharing his excitement on X.com (formerly Twitter), the artist expressed his joy for reaching another milestone: “Big 32 soon! Omo, God is good. Happy to be alive! My eyes don see shege, but steady, my fans dey shout shekpe!”
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has always been known for giving back to the community, and this year was no different. As part of his birthday celebration, he announced a ₦300 million donation aimed at supporting orphanages and a charity focused on combating drug abuse among Nigeria’s youth.
In a statement shared through his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation (DAF), Davido highlighted his commitment to making a difference in underserved communities across Nigeria. The statement, released on Thursday, read: “In line with its unwavering commitment to supporting underserved communities across Nigeria, the David Adeleke Foundation proudly announces another impactful year of charitable giving. Since its establishment in 2022, the Foundation has remained steadfast in its mission to create a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals.”
Davido’s foundation has been a major player in philanthropy, having donated substantial funds to orphanages and other causes since its inception. This year, the ₦300m will go towards supporting orphanages and funding programs that aim to prevent drug abuse and addiction among young people across Nigeria.
The statement continued: “Over the past few years, DAF has spearheaded life-changing initiatives, donating substantial funds to hundreds of charities and orphanages across the country. These contributions have directly enhanced the lives of thousands, reaffirming our core values of compassion, equity, and sustainable community support.”
Davido’s donation will support grassroots projects and initiatives that have a ripple effect on vulnerable communities, embodying the power of collaboration and kindness. His dedication to helping those in need is not new; in fact, this donation marks the continuation of his tradition of giving back. In February 2024, he had announced another ₦300m donation to orphanages, and in November 2021, he donated ₦250m to 292 orphanages in honor of his 29th birthday.
Fans and well-wishers have showered Davido with praise for both his generosity and his dedication to making a positive impact in Nigeria. As he celebrates another year of life, his philanthropic efforts continue to inspire and uplift communities across the country.
