Nigerian crossdresser Bobrisky has taken legal action against online critic VeryDarkMan, seeking N1 billion in damages for alleged defamation and blackmail.

In a letter shared on Instagram, Bobrisky’s lawyers claimed VDM used artificial intelligence to generate a fake audio call defaming the crossdresser. They also accused VDM of blackmail and using Bobrisky’s name for personal gain.

The letter demanded an apology within 24 hours and N1 billion in damages. VDM had previously accused Bobrisky of making false claims about his relationships with top officials, including DIGs of the Nigerian police, lawmakers, and senators, without providing proof.

The recent occurrence has sparked a lot of reaction on the X platform “1 billion naira? Where he go see am?” – @laura.baby_ said on on her twitter page.

“Washere idris mi! Nah AI that recording be oo, no be you talk am.” – @_lamie.xx

“I know lawyers are tired of seeing VDM’s name. Na lawyers really get this year. Massive cash out.” – @laura.baby__

“Bobrisky, you’re taking this too far. VDM is just trying to expose your lies.” – @stylebydrew1

“I’m tired of VDM’s constant attacks on Bobrisky. It’s time for him to face the law.” – @green_tutorsng

Meanwhile, Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh shared tips on how to protect oneself from phone calls being recorded, advising fans to use specific applications that alert them when they’re being recorded.

This development follows a long-standing feud between Bobrisky and VDM. Bobrisky’s lawsuit alleges VDM’s actions harmed his reputation and sought compensation.

As the case unfolds, many are watching to see how the court will rule on the issue of AI-generated content and its implications for defamation law.

Will Bobrisky’s lawsuit set a precedent for online defamation cases in Nigeria? Only time will tell.
